Ice escape with 3-1 win over Thunder

After dropping a 5-4 decision on Friday night against the Wichita Thunder, Indy rebounded with a 3-1 win over the Thunder on Saturday night. Playing before a Conseco Fieldhouse crowd of 7,160, the Ice sent the boistorous fans home happy after an entertaining affair.

Ice captain Bernie John (10) scored the game winning goal at the 3:25 mark of the final period to propel Indianapolis to victory. Indy received an open net goal from Jason Baird (18) to seal the victory.

"After playing so poorly last night, it was very gratifying to score the empty netter and seal the win," said Baird. The All-Star forward battled through a tough contest on Friday night, racking up 22 minutes in penalties.

The two teams once again battled even to the keelthrough the first two periods. Dave Gilmore (19) scored the games first goal, however the Thunder evened up the game on an Adam Calder (23) goal.

Ice netminder Brent Zelenewich stopped 27 shots, earning the games First Star . The rookie netminder improved to 9-5-1 on the season.

"The defense in front of me did such a great job of allowing me to see the puck," said Zelenewich. "When that happens, my job becomes so much easier and I can really stay focused on the game,"

With the win, Indianapolis improves to 22-15-1 (45 points) on the season. The Ice play next on Friday night versus the Memphis RiverKings for the first of a three game set against the Kings.
