BOSSIER CITY - The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings came up just short Saturday night, losing 3-2 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before a crowd of over 6,900 fans at the CenturyTel Center.

Dan Wildfong scored his first goal of the contest on a bouncing puck that barely trickled over the line past RiverKings goaltender Mike Minard early in the third period of the game, breaking a 2-2 deadlock and giving the Mudbugs the lead for good.

The game was scoreless through the first frame, as both teams' goaltenders turned in excellent creasework. Minard stopped all ten shots he faced, while Bossier goaltender Jeff Blair stopped 12 shots.

But the second period saw two goals in the first two minutes for the Mudbugs, as forwards Jason Campbell and Chad Spurr both fired pucks past Minard. After the initial flurry, the scoring settled down on both sides, leaving the score at 2-0 Mudbugs.

The RiverKings, however, were able to tie things up early in the third, as Jay Neal deflected a shot in on the powerplay. Neal's goal was followed by a bizarre play just seconds later, where Blair, attempting to clear the puck behind his own net in a scramble situation, swept it into his own goal.

The loss left the RiverKings one point out of first place, and moved Bossier-Shreveport into the lead in the Northeast Division.

The RiverKings will be in action again next Friday at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, as they take on the Indianapolis Ice.
