February 5, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (24-16-5) won their second game in a row Saturday night, defeating the San Diego Gulls (19-18-5) by a score of 3-2. The Ice Dogs are now 10-1-1 over their last 12 games.

Mike Woodford opened the scoring at 14:03 of the first period from David Walker, giving Long Beach a 1-0 lead. It was Teddy Bear Toss Night, as fans threw teddy bears onto the ice after the goal. However, just 34 seconds later the Gulls tied it up, with a goal by Rob Flynn from Patrick Levesque and Mark Wires. But the Ice Dogs got the lead back at 17:06 with a power play goal by Shawn McAslan who put up a five point game the night before versus Las Vegas. Christian Larrivee and Cory Urquhart assisted on the goal.

After a scoreless second period, the Ice Dogs gave themselves a two goal cushion when Blake Robson scored his first of the year at 8:28 of the third from Derick Martin and Mike Woodford. Then at 15:19, Martin Mandeville made it interesting bringing the Gulls to within one with help from Nikita Korovkin and Pierre-Luc Sleigher. It was, however, all they would manage as the Ice Dogs hung on to win the game 3-2.

Greg Hewitt won his third game in a row, making 29 saves and being named the game's number one star. He is now 4-0-1 in his last five. Tom Lawson took the loss for San Diego with 38 saves. The Ice Dogs went 1-6 on the power play while stopping all six of the Gulls' power play opportunities.

The Ice Dogs head out on the road for the next two weeks, starting with a three-game series in Victoria next week. Their next home game is Friday, February 24th, versus the Utah Grizzlies at 7:30pm. For more information call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com.
