Dayton Bombers News Release

Johnstown, PA- The Bombers played the second game of a home in home series with the Johnstown Chiefs tonight. After giving up a power play goal within the first two minutes of the game and then going down 2-0 minutes later, the Bombers would cut the lead in half on a fortuitous bounce of a Chiefs defenseman to make it 2-1 at the end of one. Full story to follow...

Paul Kelly took a shot with bodies in front of Chiefs goaltender Brian Eklund and got the re-direction to go behind the crease to pick up his 6th goal as a Bomber.

Then in the second period, the Chiefs played a very conservative beginning of the period with the lead, and the Bombers would jump on their soft play to tie it minutes later.

Brian Gornick (13) took a quick wrist shot off a clean face off win by Scott Cameron (29) to get the assist and tie it at 2-2, then less than five minutes later the Bombers would take their first lead of the night.

Mark Flood (7) would score his first goal since coming off the injured reserve list on the power play, assists to Herneisen and Kelly at the 12:05 mark of the second period. That along with solid net minding from Mike Ayers once again would allow the Bombers to take the lead to the locker room at 3-2.

The first eleven minutes of the third period were very defensive and the Bombers were content with the 3-2 score, but the Chiefs would find a way to tie it at the 8:50 mark as Randy Rowe would pick up his second goal of the night over the glove shoulder of Ayers on a shot from the slot to make it 3-3.

Both Ayers and Eklund came up with some of their best stuff in the remainder of the third period and in overtime as well, and because of that the Bombers and the Chiefs headed to the shootout for the second night in a row.

Again it was the lefties stealing the show for the Bombers as Latulippe, Kelly and Cameron were chosen to take shots by head coach Don MacAdam, and the decision paid off big time. Latulippe missed just wide on the first attempt, but Kelly and Cameron each made incredible shots on Eklund to give the Bombers the 2-0 edge in the shootout.

Mike Ayers would shut the door on every single Chief to make it stand, and he has now stopped 28 out of the 31 shots against in the shootout this season, (a save percentage of .903), final score Bombers 4, Chiefs 3...
