Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (3-3) found themselves faced with elimination after their 4-2 loss to the Alaska Aces (5-2) Saturday night in Game 2 of the West Division Finals. With captain Dan Watson, Rookie of the Year runner up Marco Rosa, and starting goalie Sebastien Centomo all out with the flu, the Ice Dogs were unable to get the job done against Alaska.

The Aces got things started early, taking a 1-0 lead just 46 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal by Mike Scott. The Ice Dogs answered back with David Walker's first of the playoffs, assisted by Evan Cheverie. Alaska again took the lead at 14:25 of the first when Ryan Gaucher scored, with assists by Chris Minard and Ryan Bast. With just 18 second to go in period, Cheverie tied it at two with assists to Matt Noga and Bill Lindsay.

After a scoreless second period, the Aces took a 3-2 lead at 12:19 of the third with a goal by B.J. Young, assisted by Mike Jones. Just 1:07 later Joe Talbot scored to seal the win with help from Charles Linglet and Kimbi Daniels. The 4-2 loss forces the Ice Dogs to have to win three straight in Alaska, who currently lead the five game series, 2-0.

Olivier Michaud suffered the loss for Long Beach, making 21 saves in his first start of the playoffs. Peter Aubry had 36 saves in the win for Alaska. Neither team converted on the power play, with Long Beach going 0-3 and Alaska going 0-2. The teams will face off again on Monday night at Alaska in Game 3 of the West Division Finals.
