
Bourne, Gladiators Clip Checkers, 2-1 in OT

Joe Bourne scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Gladiators knock off the Charlotte Checkers 2-1 in Game #1 of the American Conference Semifinals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Sunday night.
Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead on Kris Goodjohn's second goal of the post season 7:14 into the first period. Lane Manson added an assist on the goal tapping the puck into the slot for Goodjohn. Jeff Campbell also had a helper on the goal.
Eddie Pershin the tied the game up as he was credited with Charlotte's first goal out of a pile up in front of the Gladiators net. The unassisted goal came at 12:07 of the second period.
Gwinnett went to overtime for just the second time this post season following a scoreless third period as the Gladiators were held off the scoreboard on the power play.
Joe Bourne ripped a slap shot from the left wing circle past Westlund at 17:21 of the overtime period picking up a drop pass from Mike Vigilante just over the blue line to set up the game winning goal. Pascal Pelletier also added an assist by moving up the left wing wall and in over the blue line.
Gwinnett was held off the scoreboard on the power play for the first time in the post season and Brad Schell's consecutive point scoring streak was halted at 4 games in the win. For the second time this post season, Gwinnett posted over 60 shots out shooting Charlotte 62-34 in the wing.
