
Ice Dogs Fall In Overtime In Game One

LONG BEACH, Calif. â The Long Beach Ice Dogs (3-2) came up short in the opening game of the West Division Finals, losing to the Alaska Aces (4-2) by a score of 2-1 in overtime. It was the first overtime game of the playoffs for the Ice Dogs, who now trail the Aces 1-0 in the series. The loss sets up a must win for Long Beach tomorrow, which faces falling behind 2-0 in the series heading back to Alaska.
Evan Cheverie got the first goal of the game, giving the Ice Dogs a 1-0 lead at 8:50 of the first period. The power play goal was scored on a two man advantage, with assists to Chris Kenady and Marco Rosa. The score remained 1-0 until 11:56 of the second period, when the Aces' Mike Jones scored his first goal of the playoffs to tie it up. B.J. Young and Keith McCambridge assisted on the goal.
After a scoreless third period, the teams went into sudden death overtime with the score knotted at one. Just three minutes into the overtime period, Ryan Bast scored, with assists to Ryan Gaucher and B.J. Young. The goal gave the Aces the 2-1 victory and the 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Sebastien Centomo took the loss for Long Beach, making 30 saves. Peter Aubry got the win for Alaska with 34 saves. The Ice Dogs were 1-4 on the power play, while stopping all three of Alaska's opportunities.
The Ice Dogs and Aces will face off again tomorrow night at 7 PM for Game 2 of the West Division Finals. It will be the final home game of the series for Long Beach, which will head to Alaska for the final three games if necessary. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
