Long Beach, Calif. – Ryan Bast scored his first goal in 67 playoff games three minutes into overtime to give Alaska a 2-1 victory at Long Beach in Game One of the West Division Finals.

The Aces played a ragged first period, falling behind 1-0 when Evan Cheverie scored his first goal in eight games against Alaska with Long Beach in the midst of a five-on-three power play at 8:50. Alaska starter Peter Aubry kept the Aces in the game, however, finishing with 34 saves in his best performance of the 2005 playoffs. Mike Jones tied the game at 11:56 of the second period by re-directing a centering pass from B.J. Young over Sebastien Centomo's right shoulder.

The game-winner came on a broken play off the rush, with Bast, a nine-year veteran, wheeling and firing the puck by Centomo from the right circle at exactly 3:00 of overtime. The Aces, making their second straight appearance in the division finals, improve to 3-1 in overtime playoff games under head coach Davis Payne and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

The Ice Dogs try to even the series tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. ADT in a game broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM. Monday's Game Three in Anchorage at 7:15 p.m. is nearly sold out, with standing-room-only tickets still available. Games Four and Five, if necessary, will be played at Sullivan Arena Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29. All home games during the West Division Finals also will be made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
