Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears failed to follow up on a major comeback from the night before and fell to the Peoria Rivermen 3-0 in Knoxville's final home game of the regular season.
The loss snapped Knoxville's ten game point streak. The Ice Bears went 0-7 on the power play.
Peoria took advantage of its first power play when Cody Dion picked up a loose puck by the crease and slipped it past Bryan Hince at 14:19 of the first. After the Rivermen survived the first penalty of a Knoxville 5-on-3, Peoria's Walker Wontoneak crept out of the penalty box behind the Knoxville defense where Mike Gurtler found him for a breakaway. Wontoneak beat Hince for the shorthanded goal to give Peoria a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
Josh Harris extended the lead to three for Peoria when he carried the puck from his own zone through center ice. He received a pass from Dave Pszenyczny in the high slot and fired a one-timer over the glove of Hince at 18:49 of the second.
The Ice Bears hit the road next weekend to end the regular season at Louisiana on Friday and Saturday. Peoria will host Columbus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Rivermen have clinched the No. 1 seed throughout the SPHL playoffs.
