Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears fell to the Augusta RiverHawks 3-2, ending its three game home winning streak in front of a weather weary crowd of 2,402.
As in recent games, the Ice Bears jumped out to an early lead on a goal from Peter Neal at 6:07 of the first period. Knoxville capitalized on a three man rush as Tyler Fernandez and Dan Bremner hit a trailing Neal in the slot, who wristed a top shelf goal. The period ended with a flurry of penalties for Augusta, which put the Ice Bears on an extended 5-3 power play in which they were unable to convert.
The RiverHawks drew even at 4:24 into the second period on a quick power play goal by Jason Price. The goal was assisted off the faceoff by Dennis Sicard and Drew Baker. Penalties by David Segal and Matt Pierce led to kills by the Ice Bears defense.
Augusta took its first lead of the night on an even strength goal by Jesse Echternach at the 3:53 mark of the third period. The Ice Bears pressured hard to pull even and got its chance on a break led by Nate Peterson. Peterson blistered a shot that rebounded off of net minder Robert Moss's pad and Bremner poked it over Moss for the tying goal.
The game winning goal for Augusta came at the 14:37 mark by Casey Mignone and was assisted by Matt Auffrey and Alex Morton.
The Ice Bears will be back on home ice this Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 for a Comedy Night edition of $1,000 Thursdays, sponsored by Star 102.1. One lucky fan and comedian will share in the $1,000 pot.
