Ice Bears Seal the Deal on Rivermen

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Peoria Rivermen 4-3 in front of an vivacious crowd of 3,980.

Ice Bears forward Peter Neal made a statement to the fans when he scored twice in the first period to put the Rivermen down 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. Between the two markers were two fights - both at the 6:26 mark of the period. Alex Hudson of Peoria squared off with Ryan Hill to initiate the stoppage. Peoria's Denis Sicard tussled with former Riverman and newly acquired Jarret Rush at the drop of the puck to resume play at the same time on the clock.

Ice Bears looked to take a commanding lead when Berkley Scott dazzled the crowd with a break away off a Ryan Salvis pass at 8:34 of the middle frame. Five minutes later the Rivermen showed signs of life when Michael Slowikowski delivered and unassisted goal at 13:42 of the period.

Knoxville Ice Bears entered the final period of play with a two goal lead, Lucas Van Natter scored his first professional goal and the eventual game winner at 4:39. The Rivermen were going to go out swinging as they were able to beat Ice Bears netminder Braley Torris twice within 70 seconds to put the pressure on the home team.

Determined to end the weekend on a high note, the Ice Bears tightened up significantly in the final 8:45 of the game for the 4-3 win and a split the two game series with the Rivermen.
