Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Knoxville returned to the ice for the second of three games this weekend in an attempt to get back in the win column. The Ice Bears weren't able to solve FireAntz goalie Mike Spillane and were handed their third straight home loss, 1-0.
The Ice Bears defense was strong from the beginning with Ice Bear's goalie Bryan Hince turning away all of the FireAntz shots through the first period and both teams saw a scoreless first period.
Knoxville's David Segal, who returned to the ice tonight after a one-game suspension, set the tone for a physical game when he dropped the gloves against Fayetteville's Phil Sbrocchi near the end of the period.
Both teams' played strong defensively all game, and Knoxville still couldn't get one past Spillane in the second period. Fayetteville's Jeff Borrows shuffled the puck through a crowded net and snuck it past Hince for the first goal of the night.
The Ice Bears forced the play in the third period. Even skating 6-on-3 in the final minute of the period, they couldn't overcome the 1-point deficit.
Knoxville was able to hold the league's top three scorers to nine shots on goal and no points. Rookie goalie Hince stopped 32 of 33 shots on the night.
The Knoxville Ice Bears hit the road tomorrow with a rematch with FireAntz and will be back on home ice Thursday Feb. 3, to take on the Columbus Cottonmouths. Fans can enjoy "Two"riffic Thursday deals featuring $2 beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), $2 popcorn and $2 hotdogs. UT students remember to show your student ID for a discount on admission.
