Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta RiverHawks' forward Travis Dunstall scored his second game-winning goal in as many contests to defeat the host Mississippi Surge 5-4 Friday night in Biloxi, MS. Dunstall's goal with just one minute and 55 seconds remaining in the third period capped off a RiverHawks' comeback that saw them rally from a 3-1 deficit in the second period.

The win is the RiverHawks' third in a row and ensured them sole possession of fourth-place in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The game-winning goal gave Dunstall a three-point night, as he also had two assists on the evening. He led the way offensively alongside Captain Matt Auffrey who also enjoyed a three-point game. The offensive outburst gives Dunstall an impressive three goals and five points in his first four games with the RiverHawks, while Auffrey moves into the SPHL's top-ten scorers.

Auffrey's goal was the first of the game and came early in the first period while the RiverHawks were on the power play. They would not escape the first period with the lead, however, as Rob Campbell would tie the score for the Surge mid-way through the first.

The Surge scored a couple of quick power play goals to start the second period as Rusty Masters and Jeff Winchester would both tally just a minute and thirty three seconds apart. The two-goal lead would get sawed in half before the end of the second stanza as the RiverHawks would again score on the power play. This time it was Ryan Olidis who beat Surge goaltender Dan Earles.

The RiverHawks would tie the game temporarily early in the third as forward Egor Mironov would score his 15th of the season. The even score would last just 37 seconds as Masters would regain the lead for the Surge with his second goal of the night.

Things looked dire for the RiverHawks as the clock ticked down, however defenseman Curtis Megginson came through for his club with the team's third power play goal of the night, setting the stage for Dunstall's winner just two minutes and fifteen seconds later.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 4th as they face the Columbus Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
