GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (April 3, 2013) - With more than 60 combined appearances in 2012, midfielder Miguel Ibarra and outside back Justin Davis were two of the first names onto coach Manny Lagos' team sheet. That will continue through at least 2014 after Minnesota United FC announced contract extensions for each player Wednesday.
Ibarra, a 23-year-old winger from Lancaster, Calif., signed an extension through 2014. Davis, a 24-year-old left back from Litchfield Park, Ariz., signed a two-year extension through 2015.
"It's exciting for the club to have guys who are committed to the club for the long term, and the club wants to commit to them because they're great for the community and our on-field product," Lagos said.
A rookie in 2012, Ibarra started 31 games, compiling nearly 2,500 minutes, five goals and five assists in all competitions, including the winning goal in the team's playoff opening win at the Puerto Rico Islanders and an assist in the North American Soccer League Championship Series. In his second season as a professional in 2012, Davis made 32 starts, recording a goal and four assists in more than 2,900 minutes in all competitions.
"I decided to extend my contract because this team, organization and Manny opened the doors for me to become a professional soccer player," Ibarra said. "I love the organization, the team, and what Dr. McGuire is doing with the new identity and major signings. I have a lot of faith in this team and know that if we work hard every practice and every game we are capable of getting back to the championship."
