DAYTONA BEACH, FL - On Monday, August 13th, the Florida State League named Ibandel Isabel the Player of the Week for August 6 through August 12. It is the second time this season Isabel has received the honor; he also won the week of May 28th.
Isabel helped Daytona to a 4-2 record last week by going 12-for-24 with 3 doubles and 5 home runs. His 8 extra base hits were the most in Minor League Baseball during that span. Isabel slashed .500/.538/1.250 in 6 games with 8 RBI's and 7 runs scored. He also drew 2 walks and struck out 9 times.
Isabel is the first Daytona player to win Player of the Week twice in the same season since Javier Baez did so in 2013 for the Daytona Cubs.
On Saturday night, Isabel hit an eighth inning solo home run off Jupiter RHP Reilly Hovis to become the first player in the FSL to record 29 homers in a season since 2008. Isabel is just one home run away from becoming the first player in the FSL to reach 30 since 2004.
The Tortuga slugger is also three home runs shy of tying the Daytona franchise record of 32 and four home runs from tying the FSL record of 33. Isabel's 29 homers are the most in all of Minor League Baseball since he made his debut with the Tortugas on April 19th.
Tampa's Deivi Garcia won the FSL Pitcher of the Week award.
Isabel followed up the award by going 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, tying the best stretch of his career. The slugger is 17-for-41 (.415) during that span. Isabel looks to make it a career-high 11 straight games with a hit tonight as the Tortugas continue their four game series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
