Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

After a disappointing 4-3 loss on Monday, the Stone Crabs look to hold on to first place in the division at 7 p.m. in Fort Myers tonight. Kenny Rosenberg makes the start for Charlotte against Clark Beeker of the Miracle.

Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.

MIRACLE TAKE OPENER 4-3

Despite five good innings from Brendan McKay and a clutch two-run double from Rene Pinto to give the Stone Crabs a late lead, the Fort Myers Miracle came back to take the series opener 4-3 at Hammond Stadium. Caleb Hamilton's two-out, two-run double down the right field line proved to be the decisive blow.

"STRO"-LLING TO FIRST

Stone Crabs utility man Miles Mastrobuoni is putting together one of the most consistent, under-the-radar seasons of any Charlotte player. The Nevada product is currently leading the league in on-base percentage (.393), pacing the team in walks (45). He is two walks from placing top-10 in franchise history and is sixth in the circuit in hitting (.293). He has played seven positions and occupied eight spots in the batting order.

ABOVE THE FRAY

Stone Crabs outfielder Jake Fraley has done nothing but rake since coming off the DL on June 7. Since July 5, Fraley is batting .380/.425/.620 with 13 extra-base hits, 22 RBI, five stolen bases and seven walks in 24 games. For the season, he is batting .420 with runners in scoring position.

MORE THAN A PINT OF IMPROVEMENT

Stone Crabs catcher Rene Pinto has shown significant improvement with the bat each month:

April May June July Aug

AVG .214 .219 .313 .321 .323

OPS .500 .642 .736 .804 .834

CLUTCH CRABS

The Stone Crabs continue to fare much better in close games lately than they did earlier in the season. The Stone Crabs entered June 9 with a 4-12 record in one-run games. Since then, they've gone 19-10 in games decided by two runs or less, walking off on their opponent six times.

DOUBLE DIPPING

The Stone Crabs have hit more doubles (243) than everyone else in the rest of the league by at least 38 (Dunedin - 205). Charlotte's 243 doubles puts them on a pace for 286, which would obliterate the franchise mark of 257 (2011). Tristan Gray is already well within the franchise's single-season leaders:
