March 15, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
Max Iafrate scored the lone goal for the Kitchener Rangers in a 5-1 road loss to the Erie Otters on Sunday night.
The Otters opened the scoring early in the first period, when Patrick Murphy centred the puck for captain Connor McDavid two minutes into the frame. The draft-eligible centre slid the puck between the pads of Dawson Carty for his 43rd goal of the season. Remi Elie also picked up an assist on the lone goal of the opening frame.
Erie led shots on goal 12-4 after 20 minutes.
Rookie Taylor Raddysh extended the Otters lead to 2-0 with a power play marker later in the second period. The first round pick collected Elie's pass and popped it over Carty's right pad, recording his 20th of the year. Brother Darren Raddysh earned the second helper on the play.
The Otters out-shot the Rangers 15-14 in the middle frame.
Alex DeBrincat added to his rookie scoring lead 38 seconds into the final frame, pushing Erie ahead 3-0. His 46th goal of the season was assisted by McDavid and Elie, their second and third point of the night, respectively.
The Rangers elected to pull Carty for the extra attacker with a power play opportunity in the third period, but Darren Raddysh took advantage for the Otters, snapped a shorthanded goal from his own zone into an empty net. Kyle Maksimovich earned the lone assist on the third year rearguard's 14th of the year.
DeBrincat's second of the game put the Otters up 5-0 with less than seven minutes to play. The freshman picked up a pass from McDavid and lifted a shot just under the crossbar, his 47th of the season. Draft-eligible forward Dylan Strome collected the second assist on the play.
Max Iafrate spoiled Devin Williams' shutout bid with just over one minute to play, taking advantage of a Rangers 5-on-3 power play opportunity. The overage defenceman fired a heavy shot on net that bounced off a body and past the netminder. Iafrate has four goals in his last three games and 11 on the season. Brandon Robinson and Ryan MacInnis earned assists on the goal at 18:46.
The Rangers led shots on goal 16-8 in the third, but the Otters finished with a 35-34 overall advantage on the shot clock.
