Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Quinn Hutson scored his 100th career point, making him the seventh player in franchise history to accomplish that feat, as the Jacks reined in the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by a final score of 5-to-4 in overtime on Friday, March 4 from ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids. Jake Richard potted the game-winning goal 1:16 into the extra session, with Jake Braccini notching a pair of goals in addition to lamplighters from Joey Larson and Parker Lindauer. With the win, the Lumberjacks claim two standings points and improve to an overall record of 25-14-3-3, which is still good for third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
1st Period
It did not take long for the Lumberjacks to draw first blood as Joey Larson scores the game's first goal just 19 seconds into the contest. Larson's 24th goal of the season was assisted by Quinn Hutson and Ben Strinden to make it a 1-to-0 game. With an assist on Larson's goal, Hutson records his 100th career point, becoming the seventh Lumberjack in team history to hit triple digits.
A few minutes later at 4:24, Jake Braccini notched his 19th goal of the season to make it a 2-to-0 lead for Muskegon. Owen Mehlenbacher picked up the lone assist.
The Riders would put up a crooked number on the scoreboard at 9:12 with a goal courtesy of Yusko Ando to make it a 2-to-1 game. Ando's sixth goal of the season went unassisted.
Thirteen seconds later, the Lumberjacks restored the two-goal lead after a snipe from Muskegon's Parker Lindauer to increase the lead to 3-to-1. Lindauer's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Tyler Hotson and Jacob Guevin.
After the first period of action, the Lumberjacks took a 3-to-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
2nd Period
Just 39 seconds into the middle frame, the RoughRiders pulled within one goal after a lamplighter from Grant Ahcan to make it a 3-to-2 contest, still in favor of Muskegon. Ahcan's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Dominic Elliott.
Just over a minute later, Cedar Rapids got the equalizer from Cole Burtch with his 15th goal of the year at 1:46 to tie the game 3-to-3. Burtch's goal went unassisted.
After two periods of play, both teams skated to a 3-to-3 tie heading into the final period of regulation.
3rd Period
The Riders eventually pulled in front 4-to-3 in the final period with a goal from Martins Lavins at 11:21 of the third. Robert Flinton and Zacharaya Wisdom picked up assists on the play.
With just over two minutes left in regulation, Muskegon's Jake Braccini tied the game 4-to-4 with his second goal of the night at 17:03 of the period. Braccini's 20th goal of the season was assisted by David Hymovitch and Owen Mehlenbacher.
With both teams knotted up at 4-to-4, each team collected a point in the standings and proceeded to a five-minute, three-on-three overtime session to decide the winner.
Overtime
Jake Richard ended the game 1:16 of overtime with his 11th goal of the season for the Lumberjacks. Ben Strinden picked up the lone assist on Richard's game-winning goal to win the game for Muskegon 5-to-4.
