
Hustle Cap Homestand with Regular Season Sweep of Texas Legends

Southaven, Miss. - The Memphis Hustle (23-7) completed the sweep of a regular season series for the second straight game, defeating the Texas Legends (16-14) 132-127 Wednesday night at Landers Center. The Hustle have won seven straight games against the Legends and finished its seven-game homestand at 6-1.
Texas opened the game on a 13-4 run, making its first five field goal attempts and eventually seven of its first eight. Memphis pulled within 23-21 at the 3:52 mark before an 8-0 run over 2:25 gave Texas its largest lead of the game at 31-21. Texas led 33-27 at the end of the first and had 28 of their 33 points in the quarter come from the painted area. The Legends scored 88 points in the paint for the game, setting a Hustle franchise record for any opponent.
Memphis kept the game within reach in the second and took its first lead at 56-55 on a Jarrod Uthoff three-pointer at the 2:00 mark. The teams exchanged the lead three more times before the Hustle took a 62-61 lead into the break.
Despite a 7-0 run that gave Memphis a 75-71 lead with 8:08 left in the third, the Legends appeared to wrestle control of the game during the middle portion of the frame. Texas outscored Memphis 23-10 over the next 5:06, with 15 of those points coming from Yudai Baba. Texas shot 7-of-12 from long range in the quarter after shooting just 3-of-11 in the first half and led 102-95 heading into the fourth.
The Hustle gradually took over in the final quarter, outscoring the Legends 37-25 and shooting 14-of-23 (.609) from the field while knocking down half their three-point attempts (3-6 3P) and all five free throw attempts. At the 7:44 mark, Dusty Hannahs tied the game at 110-110 after pouring in a finger roll and three-point attempt on neighboring possessions. Texas scored five straight points before Memphis responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead back with 5:40 to go. The Hustle took the lead for good with a dish from Ahmad Caver to Hannahs at the 4:51 mark. Texas had multiple opportunities to tie the game in the final minute but couldn't convert and Marquis Teague iced the game with a pair of free throws.
Hannahs finished with 33 points for his seventh 30-point outing and his fourth straight 20-point performance on 13-of-23 from the field and 5-of-10 long range. Teague continued his production in a starting role, adding 24 points and eight assists. Uthoff (21 points, 17 assists) posted his 12th double-double of the season to go with four assists, two steals and two blocks. Shaq Buchanan finished with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and is averaging 21.0 points in his first two starts of the season. Caver was also productive for Memphis, finishing with 16 points, eight assists and four steals. Memphis won its second straight game with just nine players available.
The Legends had eight of 10 players who saw action reach double figures, led by Memphis native Cameron Payne's 23 points off the bench. Baba finished with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting (3-3 3P). Dakota Mathias added 18 points of his own. Chad Brown posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for Texas.
The Hustle embark on a road back-to-back in Northern California, starting with the Stockton Kings on Friday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. CT. Memphis returns home on Thursday, Feb. 6 for its third annual Financial Literacy Education Day Game presented by Renasant Bank, with tip-off set for 10:30 a.m. CT against the Oklahoma City Blue.
