Hurricanes Recall Steven Goertzen From Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled right wing Steven Goertzen (GUHRT-sehn) from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.

This marks Goertzen's first NHL recall this season. The 25-year-old Stony Plain, Alb., native has notched six goals and earned seven assists (13 points) in 45 AHL games with the River Rats in this, his sixth full professional season. Goertzen (6'2", 216 lbs.) has played in 62 career NHL games with Columbus and Phoenix, and earned his first NHL points (2g, 2a) in 2008-09 with the Coyotes, including his first NHL goal on Feb. 7, 2009, against Carolina. The Blue Jackets drafted Goertzen in the seventh round, 225th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 8, 2009.
