RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Jamie McBain from Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL). McBain will be available for the team's game against the Boston Bruins tonight at the RBC Center.
McBain, who will turn 22 on March 25, is in his first full professional season and has yet to make his NHL debut. The Edina, MN, native leads all Albany defensemen and ranks second among River Rats in scoring this season with 40 points (7g, 33a) in 68 games played. He ranks third on the team in plus/minus (+13) and is currently ninth among AHL defensemen in points this season.
McBain (6'2", 200 lbs.) was the Hurricanes' first selection (63rd overall) in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he totaled 15 goals and 64 assists (79 points) in 111 career games. McBain was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) Player of the Year and a candidate for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award (top college player) following his junior season in 2008-09, after totaling 37 points (7g, 30a) to lead the Badgers in scoring. He led all WCHA scorers in scoring in league games with 28 points, making him just the second defenseman in league history to lead the conference in points. McBain is a product of the United States National Team Development Program, and represented the United States at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior Championships.
