Albany Devils News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - Tyler Ennis' game-tying goal with five minutes remaining in regulation helped the Portland Pirates rally for a 3-2 shootout win over the Lowell Devils on Tuesday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. With the point, the Devils pulled into sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Division at 34-25-4-5.
Down 2-1 in the third period, Ennis would eventually send the match to overtime when Mark Mancari fired a pass out of the near corner that found him alone in the slot for a wrist shot past the glove of Mike McKenna
Lowell would outshoot Portland 6-1 in the extra session and have a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Portland netminder J.P. Lamoureux stopped Tim Sestito on the breakaway to force the shootout.
Lamoureux went on to stop four more Devils, while Nathan Gerbe and Mancari were able to get the puck past McKenna to secure the win. Portland is a perfect 4-0 past regulation versus Lowell this season, including three victories in the shootout.
The Pirates got the 1-0 lead on their home ice as Kyle Wanvig waited for his teammates to complete a line change before hitting TJ Brennan at the point for a slapshot that snuck by McKenna at 9:11 of the first period.
Lowell was able to knot the score on the power play with 4:22 left in the first as Lamoureux had his outlet attempt picked off on the far dasher by Cory Murphy. The Devils defenseman quickly sent the puck toward the crease where Nick Palmieri tipped in his 20th of the season.
Matt Halischuk gave the Devils their first lead of the game when he pushed toward the Portland net and batted Kory Nagy's centering feed into the net to make the score 2-1 with 2:18 until the second intermission.
The Lowell Devils return to the Tsongas Center on Friday, Mar. 19 to battle the Providence Bruins at 7:00PM. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Jeff Frazee Bobblehead, courtesy of the Eagle Tribune. Go online to AHLlive.com to listen or watch all of the live Devils action.
