Hurricane Relief Effort to Continue During Monday's Regular Season Finale

September 1, 2005 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(Lancaster, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks, in partnership with the Flight Crew Booster Club, will continue to raise funds for the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund during Monday's regular season finale at Clear Channel Stadium and will provide a complimentary Reserved Section game ticket to all fans who contribute any monetary amount to the fund. The JetHawks will be taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm in the final game of the 2005 regular season at 7:00 PM that evening.

In addition, the team announced today that the winning bids received for the home jerseys of Jeff Cook and Micah Owings during the club's silent auction that is currently taking place, and will conclude on Monday, will be donated to the relief fund. Cook, a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Owings, who recently completed his collegiate career at Tulane University in New Orleans, are two players on the JetHawks roster with strong ties to the areas most affected by the hurricane.

According to information provided by the American Red Cross, the most beneficial and helpful thing that people wanting to help can do is contribute monetarily to the disaster relief effort as food and supplies can become cumbersome and overwhelm the relief organization. Therefore, only monetary donations will be accepted on Monday and all monies raised during the last four games of the regular season at Clear Channel Stadium will be directed to the hurricane relief effort immediately following the conclusion of the regular season.

The JetHawks and Flight Crew Booster Club have raised over $1,200 during games earlier this week at Clear Channel Stadium by "passing the hat" in the fourth inning and will continue to do so at tonight's home game. On Monday, Booster Club members will be stationed in front of the ballpark accepting monetary donations and in return, providing fans who contribute any amount to the disaster relief fund with a complimentary Reserved Section ticket to that evening's game. A special "History of the American Flag" ceremony presented by the Knight's of Columbus will precede a fireworks pyrospectacular show immediately following the conclusion of the game.

The JetHawks conclude its current homestand tonight at 7:00 PM versus the Inland Empire 66ers before heading to High Desert for a three-game series this weekend against the first place Mavericks. Monday's one-game series against the Storm will be the final regular season home game before the JetHawks meet the Mavericks in the California League Mini Series beginning September 7.
