Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc offense could get a boost this weekend as head coach John Gibson announced today that the team has signed forwards Trevor Karasiewicz and Chris Nichols along with defenseman Jason deGuehery. Former Havoc player, Dan Buccella, has been signed to a five-game tryout.
Karasiewicz was in camp with the Havoc but missed the first two games with a strained groin. He played in 40 games for Pee Dee last season and scored eight goals and recorded 34 assists. He played in 52 games for the Winston-Salem Polar Twins in 2004-05 and scored 17 goals and recorded 60 assists.
"Trevor's injury was a minor set back and we thought it was best to give him last weekend off to rest," Gibson said. "I know he is chomping at the bit to play the home opener, he looks great in practice and his line with Patterson and Monkman is going to be dangerous!"
Buccella played in 56 games for the Havoc in 2004-05 and finished second on the team with 47 points. He scored 19 goals and recorded 28 assists. He also played in Huntsville in 2003-04 and scored 25 goals and had 24 assists. He played in nine games for the Youngstown Steelhounds of the CHL last season and recorded three assists.
"The Havoc organization couldn't be happier to have Dan Buccella back in a Huntsville uniform," Gibson said. "His season was cut short to injury last season but I look for him to play like he always has and that's full out giving 110% effort. He will definitely be a spark in our lineup."
deGuehery was also in camp with the Havoc but missed the first weekend of action because of surgery in early October. He has played in 162 career games, 158 in Huntsville, and scored seven goals and recorded 67 assists. He also has 691 career penalty minutes.
Nichols was released from training camp with the Arizona Sundogs late last week. He was member of the Texas Tornado of the NAHL from 2003-05 where the team claimed back-to-back National Championships. He spent last season behind the bench as an assistant coach for the Forth Worth Texans of the WSHL. They claimed the WSHL Championship.
The Havoc released defenseman Brian McLaughlin and forwards Erik Kent and Chad Wilcox
The Havoc open home schedule this Saturday against Columbus at 7:35.
