
Huntsville Picks Up One Point In Opening Weekend

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc managed just one point over the opening weekend after falling 4-1 on Friday and losing 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday to Louisiana.

LAFAYETTE, LA - Riley Gill stood on his head and made 32 saves to lead the Louisiana IceGators to a 4-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.
Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
Louisiana was paced by Jordy Trottier, who registered one goal. Trottier scored 1:40 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana. Josh Duplantis picked up the assist.
The IceGators' offense rang up 31 shots on Huntsville's net. Louisiana's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the IceGators finished with 18 penalty minutes.
Louisiana also got a goal from Clark Byczynski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Denny Kearney, who had two and Tyler Lyon, Robert Short, Eric Tallent, and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one a piece.
The Havoc's offense rang up 33 shots on Louisiana's net.
Huntsville was led by Justin Fox, who scored the team's only goal. Fox scored on the power play 5:15 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Louisiana. The Havoc earned a power play opportunity when Trottier was put in the box for tripping. Ray Ortiz assisted on the tally.
The IceGators registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Dan McWhinney recorded 27 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
Saturday, October 27 - Huntsville 3, Louisiana 4 - SO
Matt Miller netted the deciding goal for the Louisiana IceGators in the shootout as IceGators prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3 (2-1 SO).
The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Huntsville's shootout goal was scored by Colin Reddin. Louisiana's other shootout goal was scored by Shawn McNeil.
The IceGators came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Havoc's Reddin at 1:17 in the third period. The IceGators knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Denny Kearney at 5:29 in the third period.
Miller was all over the ice for Louisiana, as he tallied one goal and one assist in the win. Miller scored 9:02 into the second period to make the score 2-2. McNeil provided the assist.
The IceGators forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Louisiana had been spending in the box. The 44 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 37.5 shots per game this season.
The IceGators were led by Miller, who finished with one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Brett Liscomb as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Matthew Robertson and Robert Short, who contributed one a piece.
Huntsville additionally got points from Stuart Stefan, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Fox, who had two and Derek Foam and Ray Ortiz, who each chipped in one.
Riley Gill rejected 26 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Dan McWhinney recorded 40 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
