Huge 2nd Period Powers Bruins over Bobcats

AUSTIN, MN - The Bruins scored five second period goals, included three powerplay tallies to drop the Bismarck Bobcats by an eventual 7-3 final score on Friday night at Riverside Arena. Gilbert Gabor led the way with two goals while Austin Rueschhoff's 5 on 5 tally turned out to be the game winner.

It was the Bobcats scoring first, and netting the only goal of the opening period when Harrison Aide cleaned up a Tobias Fladeby rebound at the 6:29 mark and gave Bismarck the 1-0 lead at the first intermission. Twelve of Bismarck's 21 shots came in the first.

The Bruins took over in the second, scoring five straight times. Gabor tied the game at 3:27, burying a wide shot from John Pesek. The Bruins went ahead on a powerplay goal by Dawson DiPietro, set up by Jacob Paganelli and Miha Zajc. Justin Misiak made it 3-1, deflecting a Griff Slightam point shot. All three goals came in the first half of the second period. After a checking from behind major penalty and game ejection was assessed to Bismarck's Trevor Herdt, Bobcat head coach Layne Sedevie was ejected as well, giving the Bruins a two-man advantage. Austin Rueschhoff cashed in at 14:05 from Will Riedell and made the score 4-1. At the tail end of the five minute powerplay, Gabor would score his second goal to make it 5-1.

The Bobcats got two goals back in the 3rd when Cole Souto and Alex Strand (PPG) each tallied for Bismarck but a late goal by Evan Cholak, taking a pass from Logan Haskins, restored the Bruins' three goal lead to 6-3. Miha Zajc, who waiting 18 games for his first NAHL goal, added a hard-fought empty netter to make it a 7-3 final. Of the 18 forwards and defenseman who dressed for the Bruins, 14 players registered points. Kris Carlson stopped 18 of 21 for his 10th win. The Bruins pulled to within one point of first place Minot, who lost at home to the Minnesota Wilderness. Austin and Bismarck complete their weekend series on Saturday night at Riverside Arena at 7:05.
