Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
The Wichita Falls Wildcats continued their season dominance over the Odessa Jackalopes, taking down the Jackalopes by a decisive score of 8-3 on Friday night.
The 20's Line, with one of its players now missing three teeth, came through again for the Cats. Austin Albrecht scored his 8th goal of the year three minutes into the game after turning and shooting the puck off Gunner Rivers' glove and into the net. The Odessa goaltender had just been recovering from the flu and was visibly off his game throughout the night. Minutes later on a 5-on-3 power play, Jeff Baum blasted a one-timer over Rivers' shoulder and into the net.
Austin Beaulieu would tally another after utilizing a beautiful toe-drag move around the Odessa defense before lifting the puck into the top corner of the net. Rivers would then be pulled in favor of Dean Shatzer, who has played well against the Wildcats all season. Shatzer would keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the rest of the period.
Four minutes into period two, Derek Brown redirected a point shot from Jake Levin to get the Jackalopes on the board, but their momentum did not last long. Adam Goodsir scored his 11th goal of the season on a rebound just over a minute later, and Nick Rosa would do the same shortly thereafter. Gray Marr converted on an Odessa power play to give the Jacks some life heading into the third period trailing 5-2.
The Wildcats power play would answer with a goal of its own. Erich Jaeger redirected a wrist shot from Michael Rounds past Shatzer to give the Wildcats a 6-2 lead. The very next shift, Cooper Zech joined an Odessa rush and tapped the puck past Justin Kapelmaster from the left wing. With the Jacks trailing by three and a hint of momentum, a glimmer of hope presented itself for a valiant comeback. The Wildcats, however, forbade that from happening and finished the third period well. Adam Goodsir and Nick Rosa would each score their second goals of the game and put the Jackalopes out of reach.
The Wildcats improved to 5-0-0 against the Jackalopes with the win, leaving Odessa without so much as a point in the standings on the season series. Five of their seven losses in regulation this season have come from the Wildcats.
Kapelmaster had 29 saves in his 11th win, while Rivers was given the loss with 18 saves on 23 shots. Shatzer made 15 saves on 18 shots. The Wildcats head back to west Texas on Saturday, November 20th to play the Amarillo Bulls.
