Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays (6-11-3) let up four-unanswered goals in the front end of the game, and despite a push back in the third period, the home side was downed 4-2 by the Lone Star Brahmas (12-1-4) on Friday night at the American Bank Center.
The Brahmas came out of the gates pressing heavily and benefitted from an early goal by forward Peter Bates just 1:42 into the game to nudge ahead, 1-0. Later in the period with the IceRays down a player, Brahmas forward Oskar Andren capitalized on the power play at 13:31 with a one-timer from the slot to double the lead, 2-0. Less than two minutes later at 14:51, Brahmas forward Carson Kelley made it 3-0 with a shot from the top of the blue line.
The second period leveled out, but Lone Star put up a fourth-unanswered goal in the frame. At 12:13, forward Troy York tucked in his own rebound to the left of the net to give his side a 4-0 lead. Through two periods, the IceRays were out-shot 24-10.
After a lull in the game's tempo through most of the third period, the IceRays found life from forward Carter Johnson, who ended the shutout bid at 13:05 with a shot down low to answer, 4-1. Then, less than two minutes later at 14:57, Johnson added his second of the night in his second multi-goal game to draw the IceRays within two, 4-2. After a late Brahmas power play and despite pulling the netminder, the IceRays couldn't climb the hill, falling 4-2. Brahmas netminder Corbin Kaczperski (6-1-1) earned the win, saving 15 of 17 shots, while IceRays goaltender Dryden McKay (3-6-3) fell in the loss, stopping 28 of 32 shots.
The IceRays finish off their three-in-three series on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:11 p.m. against the Lone Star Brahmas from the American Bank Center on Stars & Stripes Night, presented by Whataburger and First Title Company.
