Hoyt, Landoni Promoted to Mississippi

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves made a series of transactions Friday afternoon affecting the Mississippi Braves. RHP James Hoyt and infielder Emerson Landoni were promoted to Double-A Mississippi from High-A Lynchburg. Infielder Luis Nunez was also promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi. Infielder Tommy La Stella was placed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, retroactive to June 18. RHP Gary Moran was transferred to the GCL Braves to begin a minor league rehab assignment.

Hoyt, 26, was 3-2 with a 4.89 ERA in 17 games (three starts) for High-A Lynchburg. Hoyt led all Carolina League relievers with a ratio of 13.62 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and his 72 strikeouts ranked fifth among all pitchers in the league. Hoyt limited lefties to a .155 opponent's batting average and also held opponents to a .160 average with runners in scoring position and two outs. A native of Boise, ID, Hoyt was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a free agent on November 15, 2012.

Landoni, 24, started the season on the disabled list at High-A Lynchburg but was activated and transferred to Double-A Mississippi on April 23. In 10 games with the M-Braves, Landoni hit .348 with a double, one homer and seven RBI. After returning to Lynchburg in early May, Landoni hit .280 in 25 games for the Hillcats. The Venezuelan signed with the Braves as a free agent on December 20, 2011.

Nunez, 26, was hitting .200 with 15 RBI in 37 games for the M-Braves. He began the season with Double-A Mississippi before spending time with the G-Braves in late April where he hit .227 in 10 games. Nunez was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a free agent on November 28, 2012. He was originally signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in November 2003. He spent eight seasons in the Yankees farm system before signing with the Dodgers in January 2012 and hitting .257 with Double-A Chattanooga.

La Stella, 24, was hitting .323 with six doubles, two triples, a homer and 13 RBIs in 25 games with the M-Braves. He started the season on the disabled list in Lynchburg. La Stella was activated on April 29 and posted a .550 batting average with a double, a homer and four RBIs in seven games for the Hillcats. He was promoted to Double-A Mississippi on May 6. A native of Myrtle Beach, La Stella was selected by the Braves in the eighth round of the 2011 draft.

Moran, 27, was 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in two starts for the M-Braves before hitting the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on April 17. He was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Braves on June 7, 2011. He was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 41st round of the 2009 draft out of Sonoma State University. Moran split the 2011 season with Low-A Rome (4-1, 3.50) and High-A Lynchburg (2-1, 2.63) before joining the M-Braves in 2012.

The Mississippi roster has 24 active players and 5 disabled.
