PEARL, MS -- Trayce Thompson and Andy Wilkins each launched a two-run home run to lead the Birmingham Barons to a 5-1 victory over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park Friday evening. The series continues with game four Saturday at 6:00 PM.

Mississippi (2-1, 40-33) scored five runs on seven hits while Birmingham (1-2, 44-29) plated five runs on seven hits. Both teams committed one error. Thompson and Wilkins led the Barons with two RBIs apiece. Wilkins and Tyler Saladino each had two-hit nights at the plate.

Birmingham took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to a Thompson two-run home run to left field. Marcus Semien had singled to lead off the frame before Thompson launched his ninth long ball of the season.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the frame. Phil Gosselin led off with an infield single and moved to second on a Christian Bethancourt sacrifice bunt. Christian Marrero followed with a double to left field, plating Gosselin and cutting the Barons lead to 2-1.

Semien walked and stole second to start the fifth for Birmingham. After Thompson struck out, Semien moved to third on a passed ball. Wilkins followed with a two-run homer to right field, extending the Barons lead to 4-1 over the Braves.

The Barons added another run in the eighth to make it 5-1. Wilkins singled and Tyler Saladino walked to start the innings. Jared Mitchell then delivered a single to shallow left field, driving home Wilkins.

J.R. Ballinger walked the bases loaded with Braves in the bottom of the ninth but got Edward Salcedo to pop out to second and Jose Martinez to fly out to right, ending the threat.

Stephen McCray (7-5) limited the Braves to one earned run on seven hits and two walks. He struck out two batters in six and one-third innings. Ian Thomas (3-4) worked three innings in a spot start for the M-Braves. He gave up two earned runs on two hits, four walks and a homer while striking out three.

M-Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser (5-2, 2.43) toes the rubber in game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. He'll counter Barons lefty Stephen Arroyo (5-4, 3.49). First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM.
