Howes' hat trick carries Wave over La Raza
December 1, 2007 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI -- Greg Howes scored seven points on three 2-point goals and an assist as the Milwaukee Wave capped off a weekend sweep of La Raza de Monterrey 16-10 on Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
Howes and Marcio Leite are now tied for the team scoring lead with 23 points apiece, as Leite added a goal and assist on top of his nine-point outing Thursday in Monterrey. The Wave (4-2) led 4-0 early after Deco scored and then Howes finished a power play opportunity near the top of the penalty area after being fed by Leite. Brett Wiesner scored his third goal in two games when Oral Bullen forced a turnover, and Joe Di Buono made it 8-2 at halftime.
Milwaukee extended the advantage to 14-4 before La Raza generated a small comeback, aided by some Wave penalties. Dino Delevski and Marco Vega each scored power play goals. There were nine penalties overall, five on the Wave.
Marcel Feenstra played his first MISL game in goal and was credited with 22 saves; only four of the La Raza goals were against Feenstra because Delevski had a penalty kick goal against Troy Dusosky. La Raza already is 4 for 5 on penalty kick opportunities this season. The expansion squad fell to 1-6 with the loss.
The Wave's next game is at 7 p.m. Friday against the Philadelphia KiXX on Everyday Superheroes night at the U.S. Cellular Arena, presented by Newsradio 620 WTMJ and the American Red Cross. A blood drive in the arena annex from noon to 6 p.m. begins the day, and a "Battle of the Badges" dodgeball tournament will feature area police and firefighters, with the finals at halftime. Jeff Wagner of Newsradio 620 WTMJ will emcee the halftime, introducing the winners of the "Everyday Superheroes" contest.
Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling (414) 224-9283.
