Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that rookie standout forward Mike Kompon has been assigned to the team from the Houston Aeros of the American League. Houston is the prime affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild. Kompon is preparing for his rookie season after playing four years at Miami (OH) University.
Kompon finished his collegiate career in the 10th spot on Miami's all-time scoring list with 138 points (49 goals and 89 assists). During his senior season, Kompon ranked second on the Redhawk roster with 45 points in 41 games. Kompon's 31 assists led Miami. Kompon was a key part of Miami's first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1996-97 season.
During his junior year at Miami, Kompon led the team with 48 points (17 goals and 31 assists) in 41 games. For his accomplishments, Kompon was named to the All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Second Team.
In addition to his feats on the ice, Kompon was also accomplished in the classroom at Miami. While majoring in physical education, Kompon was named to the CCHA All-Academic Team during his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he became the first Miami hockey player to receive Academic All-American honors and was also named Miami's Co-Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
"Mike is a very highly rated forward with grit and skill," said Cornfield. "He competes every shift and should be a fan favorite. We are grateful to Matt Shaw (Houston Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager) and the Minnesota Wild organization for assisting the Mallards."

He joins Mike Burgoyne, Jason Deskins, Jeff Doyle, Joe Dusbabek, Jonathan Gagnon, Ojay Hehr, Lenny Hofmann, Jason Lehoux, Drew Otten and Marty Standish to form the Mallards forward corp.
