Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Tuesday, January 21, 2014) - The Houston Dynamo selected goalkeeper Michael Lisch in the third round (No. 54 overall) of the MLS SuperDraft, which concluded today via conference call.
Lisch, 23, recorded three shutouts in the NCAA tournament to help guide the University of New Mexico to the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament (College Cup). The Austin, Texas native played three seasons at Wake Forest University before enrolling as a graduate student at New Mexico for his senior season. The 6-foot-4 goalkeeper led Conference USA with 11 shutouts and registered a 0.84 goals against average in 2013. A product of Westlake (Austin) High School and Lonestar Soccer Club, Lisch was a teammate of Dynamo defender Anthony Arena at Wake Forest, where he earned Academic All-ACC honors from 2009-2012.
"We always want to carry three goalkeepers," said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. "Looking at Michael's credentials, and knowing that he played well at the InfoSport Combine (in January 2014) where he was watched by (Dynamo goalkeeper coach) Tim Hanley, we felt it was a good idea to pick Michael to complement our already good goalkeeping group."
The selection of Lisch completes the draft for the Dynamo after the club selected defender AJ Cochran and forward Mark Sherrod in the first two rounds on Thursday, Jan. 17.
The Dynamo begin preseason on Monday, Jan. 27 and open the 2014 MLS season on Saturday, March 8 when they host the New England Revolution at BBVA Compass Stadium. Season tickets for the 2014 season are available now by calling (713) 276-GOAL or at www.HoustonDynamo.com.
