Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC drew 2-2 with FC Dallas in a match that saw two goals come in added time in the second half, including the latest non-penalty goal in MLS history when the Dynamo equalized in the 11th minute of stoppage time to the delight of the sellout crowd of 21,284 fans at PNC Stadium.
Defender Teenage Hadebe rescued a point for the Dynamo in the 11th minute of added time as Dallas' goalkeeper blocked a shot from midfielder Darwin Quintero, but allowed the ball to trickle out as Hadebe came sprinting into the six-yard-box to smash home Houston's second goal of the night and his second goal of the season.
Dallas struck first in the 27th minute off a corner kick after midfielder Alan Velasco found Matt Hedges at the near post for the center back's first goal of the season.
The Dynamo equalized in the 69th minute after the Dallas backline cleared a cross and the ensuing shot, which fell to Thor Úlfarsson at the near post. The rookie forward found the top corner for his third goal of the season.
The Dynamo appeared to take a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute, as the team took a short corner and Quintero whipped a pass into the box that found the head of defender Sam Junqua. Junqua's header found the back of the net, but after a lengthy discussion between the referee and the side judge, the goal was called back due to an apparent offside violation by forward Fafa Picault and the score remained 1-1.
Dallas took the lead again in the third minute of stoppage time, as Jader Obrian got on a breakaway and found Jesús Ferreira, who slotted the ball in to put Dallas ahead 2-1 and on track for the win lead before Hadebe's late equalizer.
Dynamo midfielder Héctor Herrera made his debut in the 55th minute when he entered the game for Rodriguez. The captain of the Mexican National Team finished the game wearing the captain's armband after Matías Vera was subbed off in the eighth minute of stoppage.
Houston's first opportunity of the game came off the right foot of midfielder Memo Rodriguez. Picault switched play in the 12th minute and found the Dynamo Academy product at the edge of the box, Rodriguez brought the ball down with his chest to set up his shot, but his effort hit the side netting at the near post. Rodriguez finished with a team-best two shots on goal.
Dallas midfielder Paxton Pomykal forced a save from Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark in the 38th minute with a shot near the penalty spot. Clark finished with four saves against Dallas this evening, including two key saves in stoppage time to maintain Houston's opportunity to equalize.
Houston's first opportunity of the second half came from outside the box after the Dynamo recycled a clearance that ultimately found its way to midfielder Coco Carrasquilla. The Panamanian international slipped in behind the back line and forced a save with a low shot to the heart of the opposing goal.
The Dynamo travel to the state capital on Tuesday to face Austin FC for the second time this season. Houston returns to PNC Stadium on Saturday, July 23 to host Minnesota United FC. For tickets and additional information, visit HoustonDynamoFC.com.
