Brad Smith to undergo surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligament WASHINGTON, DC - D.C. United defender Brad Smith will undergo anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery on his left knee after tearing his ACL in the match against the Philadelphia Union on July 8. Team physician Dr. Chris Annunziata of OrthoVirginia will perform the surgery. Smith is expected to be sidelined for up to nine months as he rehabilitates from the injury.
