Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo acquired defender Victor Cabrera and $100,000 of 2020 General Allocation Money in a trade with the Montreal Impact, both clubs announced today.
The Dynamo traded forward Romell Quioto to the Impact, and will retain a portion of Quioto's sell-on rights in the event that he is transferred to a club outside of Major League Soccer.
Cabrera joins Houston after spending five seasons with the Impact during which he earned 82 starts in 93 appearances. The 26-year old was a key part of the Montreal squad that won the 2019 Canadian Championship, defeating Toronto FC in the final. The Argentinian played a key role in helping Montreal advance to the Eastern Conference Final in the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs a year after helping the Impact make a run to the 2015 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Final.
"We are very pleased to welcome Victor Cabrera to the Houston Dynamo. He is a hard-nosed defender who brings a highly competitive mentality to the field every day," said Dynamo Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan. "He has adapted well to MLS over the last five years and has experience on big stages, including playoff and championship games. We're excited to add a player in the prime of his career who will immediately compete for minutes on our back line."
The defender was developed in the prestigious River Plate Academy and made his professional debut with River on February 23, 2013. Cabrera was on the roster that won the Torneo final in 2013 as well as the 2014 Copa Sudamericana.
Quioto leaves Houston after starting in 47 of 72 appearances over the last three seasons. The Honduran international scored 15 goals and tallied 17 assists for the club.
Transaction: Houston Dynamo acquire defender Victor Cabrera and $100,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money in exchange for forward Romell Quioto. Houston will retain a portion of the eventual sell-on rights for Quioto.
