
Houston Aeros Fall 5-3 to Manitoba Moose Tuesday Night

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros scored three goals in the second period but allowed four in the third to fall 5-3 to the Manitoba Moose Tuesday night. Krys Kolanos extended his goal scoring streak to three games in the Aeros' loss, dropping their record back to .500 at 10-10-1-1. Houston takes on the Moose (16-4-0-0) again Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the annual Hookie/Kids Game so take an extended lunch break and join this wild crowd expected to top 7,000 fans.
The Aeros and Moose skated to a scoreless first period. Houston's John Lammers was called for a boarding major and subsequent game misconduct at the 7:18 mark of the period putting the Aeros shorthanded for 3:44. Houston killed the penalty and finished the period only being outshot by one at 10-9. Manitoba was 0-2 on the power play in the period while the Aeros finished 0-1.
Manitoba scored the first goal of the game at the 2:14 mark of the second period on a power-play goal by Jason Krog. He found some space in the left circle and beat Aeros goaltender five-hole for Krog's third goal of the season. Houston answered on Kolanos' 13th goal of the season, an unassisted breakaway goal at the 4:00 mark of the period.
Maxim Noreau gave the Aeros a 2-1 lead when he took a drop pass from Craig Valette and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Moose goaltender Karl Goehring. Houston continued their onslaught in the second period with Jesse Schultz's first goal in 17 games played. Schultz came off the Aeros' bench behind the defense and chased the puck nearly to the crease before he reached with one hand and lifted the puck past Goehring to provide a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Moose came charging back with four unanswered goals in the third period. Mario Bliznak recorded the first goal of the frame at 6:43 to bring Manitoba within one. Mark Cullen netted a power-play marker at 9:49 in the period followed by Mark Derlago's unassisted goal at 10:53. Houston, down by one late in the game, pulled Nolan Schaefer in favor of an extra attacker to try to force the tying goal. Bliznak took advantage with only 1:17 remaining in the game by snagging a loose puck and tossing it in the empty net from along the boards for the 5-3 victory.
Notes: - Jesse Schultz's second period goal ended a 16-game drought without a goal. His last goal was in the Aeros fourth game of the season at San Antonio on October 19th. Schultz is currently third on the team in scoring with 13 points and his 11 assists ranks second on the team. - The second period marked the first three-goal period since the teams 8-6 victory over the San Antonio Rampage on October 18th. Houston recorded a four-goal third period and a three-goal first period in that game. - The four-goal third period was the first time the Aeros allowed four goals in a period this season. Houston now has a record of 1-7-0-0 when allowing three or more goals in any period of play. The lone win came on October 18 vs. San Antonio when the Aeros also recorded a three and a four-goal period. - The 37 shots allowed marked the most Houston has allowed this season. - Houston gave up a two-goal lead for the second time this season. The first came on November 16 vs. Bridgeport when the Aeros fell 3-2 in a shootout.
