BOSSIER CITY, LOUISIANA - The Youngstown SteelHounds dropped out of first place in the Northeast Division as they loss to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs by a score of 4-2 on Saturday night.
The Mudbugs took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to even strength goals from Karlis Zirnis at 11:49 and Kevin Cooper at 14:10.
The Hounds answered late in the second as Chris Richards scored his 11th of the season at 19:46 from Jason Baird and Joel Irving to make it a 2-1 game after two periods. Baird has a team leading 10 game point streak.
Youngstown tied it at two thanks to Jeff Alocmbrack's wrist shot that beat Ken Carroll at the 1:06 mark of the third period. A couple of bad penalties on Youngstown led to Kevin Cooper scoring his second of the night with a power play goal at 9:37 to give the Bugs the 3-2 lead. Bossier-Shreveport was 1-12 on the power play while Youngstown was 0-4. Chris Brassard added an empty netter with four seconds to play to give the Bugs a 4-2 win. Youngstown out shot the Bugs 31-29 for the game.
The Hounds finish the road trip 0-2-0 and are now 17-8-1 (35 points) on the season. Youngstown is now in second place in the Northeast Division and are two points behind the Mississippi RiverKings. Bossier-Shreveport improves to 15-7-3 (33 points) and are now just two back of Youngstown for second. The Bugs have won the last three meetings and lead the season series 3-2.
The Hounds return home and will play the Mississippi RiverKings for first place in the Northeast Division on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th. Both games are 7:05pm starts. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
