Hounds fall to Oilers in shootout

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Tulsa Oilers came back from a 2-0 third period deficit to defeat the Youngstown SteelHounds 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night at the Chevrolet Centre. The Hounds are now 20-8-2 (42 points) and are in second place in the Northeast Division.

After a scoreless first period Youngstown took the lead in the second As Kirill Starkov scored a power play goal at 11:46 to make it 1-0. Steve Birnstill scored his second goal of the year with two seconds left to make it 2-0 Hounds after two periods. Chris Richards earned an assist on the goal and now has 399 for his Central Hockey League career.

David Beauregard made it a 2-1 game as he scored a power play goal at 9:41 of the third period. The Oilers were 1-2 on the power play while Youngstown was 1-9. With 6:39 to play Lucas Burnett tied the game at two. In the shootout the Oilers defeated the Hounds 3-1 with Warren McCutcheon getting the game winner to give the Oilers the 3-2 win.

The Hounds out shot Tulsa 50-34 for the game but it was not enough as Kevin St. Pierre made 48 saves to snap the Hounds four game home winning streak. The Hounds finish the season series against Tulsa with a 2-1-1 record.

Youngstown is now 20-8-2 (42 points) and is one point back of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for first place in the Northeast Division. The Hounds and Bugs will go at it on Tuesday night at 8:05 from Louisiana with first place on the line. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
