Austin Spurs News Release

AUSTIN, Texas, December 30, 2005 - The Austin Toros shot 60 percent from the 3-point line Friday as they held on to knock off the visiting Tulsa 66ers 105-103 at the Austin Convention Center.

Toros' guard Ezra Williams led the way for Austin (4-6) with 27 points while going 3-of-4 from beyond the 3-point line. Ramel Curry added 20 points on 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arch while Jamar Smith chipped in with 15 points. Andre Emmett was also hot from beyond the arch going 3-of-4 for 15 points.

Sean Banks led Tulsa (6-9) with 23 points while Will Conroy added 17 points. Ersan Illyasova pulled down eight rebounds to go with 13 points.

With the win, Austin has now won two games in a row for the first time this season.

"It feels good to get another win at home," said Austin head coach Dennis Johnson. "The guys worked really hard on defense and made the extra pass on offense tonight."

The Toros third home win of the season didn't appear to be a reality early on as Tulsa jumped out to a quick 15 point lead (23-8) behind some early baskets by Will Conroy and Tony Kitchings. But when Curry knocked down the Toros' first 3-point basket with three minutes left to play in the first quarter, the comeback had officially begun.

Austin outscored Tulsa 33-19 in the second quarter to turn a 15-point first quarter deficit into an 11-point halftime lead. Williams gave the Toros the momentum going into the locker room following Banks' 3-point basket with a half court heave of his own as time expired.

"Coach (Dennis Johnson) had been getting on us a lot lately about passing up that first open shot and dribbling ourselves into trouble," said Williams. "So lately, the guys have all had that confidence to go ahead and take that shot. And tonight, they were just falling for us."

Tulsa didn't give up as they scored six unanswered to end the third quarter trailing by just six points. But Austin continued to light it up from the 3-point line in the fourth quarter to keep Tulsa at bay.

Austin finished the game shooting 47.9 percent from the field to Tulsa's 48.8 percent. Austin also outrebounded the 66ers 54-45. Tulsa was just 4-of-16 from the 3-point line compared to Austin's 9-of-15 from beyond the arch.
