AUGUSTA, GA - Jonah Arenado hit a 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Augusta a 7-5 win over the BlueClaws on Thursday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Lakewood had tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, scoring three times, with Rhys Hoskins tying the game with a 2-out, 2-run home run off Carlos Alvarado.
After Lakewood left the bases loaded in the 9th, following Hoskins' home run, and the 10th, Arenado took Austin Davis (0-1) deep for his 4th home run of the year to give the GreenJackets the win. Reyes Maronta (1-1) picked up the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
While Augusta (10-11) took the series finale, the BlueClaws (10-11) took two of three in the series.
The BlueClaws scored twice in the first inning to quickly take the lead. Carlos Tocci scored on a single by Rhys Hoskins that was mis-played by left fielder Andrew Cain. Hoskins, who ended up at third, came home on an RBI single by Damek Tomscha.
The GreenJackets tied the game off Tyler Viza in the second inning - a solo home run by Aramis Garcia and a RBI double by Will Calloway made it a 2-2 game.
Augusta took the lead with three runs in the 5th inning. After two singles, Joneshway Fargas tripled to right-center to put Augusta up 4-1, and Fargas scored on a SAC fly to make it 5-2.
Viza (3-1), who was bidding for his fourth straight win to start the year, took the loss after allowing five runs over five innings. Jason Zgardowski, Calvin Rayburn, and Joey DeNato (2) each threw scoreless innings in relief for the BlueClaws.
