Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
HOLIDAY SHOPPING OFFER AT HL&S THRU FRIDAY - Just three shopping days until Christmas, and while the stockings may be hanging by the chimney with care, are they really brimming with âTLC' if they don't include a nifty Hooks' logo item from Hook, Line & Sinker? Of course not!
To help you take care of the Hooks'-loving baseball fan in your life, the good people at Hook, Line & Sinker are taking 20% off your entire purchase at the store, anytime between now and 2:00 pm on Friday, December 23rd, when the store closes for Christmas. Be sure to bring a printed copy of this e-mailer to take advantage of the 20% OFF offer. The offer is good for EVERYTHING in the store, including Baseball America's 2006 Great Parks Calendar, which features Whataburger Field in April, Hooks' team apparel, and the Caller-Times' picture book for the 2005 season, "Season to Remember."
NOLAN RYAN AUTOGRAPHED COPIES - Speaking of "Season to Remember," Hook, Line & Sinker has received a limited supply of books that have been autographed by Texas legend and Hooks' owner Nolan Ryan. These special keepsakes, normally $44.95, are, like everything else in the store, 20% OFF through 2:00 pm this Friday with this printed coupon. The time for action is NOW! Drop by the store, say hello to Brooke and company, and make the baseball fans in your life happy this holiday season!
SOUTH TEXAS PRE-SEASON HIGH SCHOOL ALL STARS ANNOUNCED - The second annual South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet is slated for January 26th, and as a part of that evening's celebration of the sport at all levels, the Hooks will be honoring 15 area high school players. The 2006 South Texas Pre-Season High School All Star Team was compiled in voting by high school coaches throughout South Texas and selected media.
Ray High School in Corpus Christi placed five players on this year's squad, followed by Moody with three and Calallen with two. Two seniors, Ray third baseman Trey Crain and Robstown pitcher Matt Flores, repeat from the first edition of prep stars honored during last January's inaugural winter banquet.
The complete story on the pre-season high school stars, written by Javier Becerra, can be read in today's Caller-Times. A complete list of the 15 players can also be viewed on the Hooks' website by clicking here http://www.cchooks.com/news/?id=5417
TICKETS ON SALE - All kinds of tickets are on sale right now at Whataburger Field. Season tickets for the coming 2006 campaign are on sale to the public, and the price holds steady at $475 per seat for all 70 home games, plus the exhibition game against Round Rock and the Whataburger College Classic in early March. For the fan that attends all 77 of those games, that works out to a little over $6 per game, a significant savings off the regular walk-up price of $9 a game.
Also on sale are tickets for the winter banquet (Jan. 26) and the Astros' caravan luncheon, which will take place on February 7th. For $100, you get tickets to both events, giving you a chance to see up close both the stars of today and tomorrow.
For more information on season, banquet and luncheon tickets, please call the club at 361-561-HOOK and ask to speak with a ticket sales representative.
CHAVEZ SIGNS, FOUR GET OFFERS - The Astros announced last night that they have signed catcher Raul Chavez to a one-year deal worth $400,000 plus incentives, thus avoiding arbitration. The club also announced that it has tendered contract offers to third baseman Morgan Ensberg, shortstop Adam Everett, and relief pitchers Brad Lidge and Dan Wheeler.
WEBSITE POLL - Hooks' website readers say their favorite Astros' pitcher is Roy Oswalt, who came up through the Astros' system and pitched for the AA Round Rock Express back in 2000. Oswalt pulled down 40% of the 106 votes cast this past week. Next in line was Roger Clemens, who technically is not on the club right now but could return in an Astros' uniform in May. Clemens received 24% of the vote, while Brandon Backe, who made two rehab starts for the Hooks this past season, garnered 17% of the ballots.
This week, tell us which team you think has done the most this off-season to improve its chances in 2006. To log your entry, go to www.cchooks.com and scroll down the home page to find the poll on the right side.
