Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Hooks slammed San Antonio with seven runs in the fourth inning Thursday night en route to a 15-7 victory over the Missions, claiming the three-game series at Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Corpus Christi's run and hit (18) totals stand as season highs.

Down 6-2 after three, Jon Gaston jump started the Hooks (10-23, 46-57) with a lead-off single in the fourth against former Hook and San Antonio (13-20, 48-55) starter Tyler Lumsden. One out later, Jimmy VanOstrand broke a 1-for-22 slump with an RBI double to right field. Lou Santangelo then scratched out an infield single and pinch-hitter David Cook was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. J.B. Shuck followed with a walk to pull Corpus Christi within two at 6-4.

Lumsden induced a fly out from Michael Affronti before issuing another bases-loaded free pass, this time to J.D. Martinez, making the score 6-5 Frisco. Colt Hynes entered in relief of Lumsden and fell victim to poor defense. Kody Kirkland rolled a grounder to third for what should have been the final out, instead James Darnell mishandled the ball, tying the game and extending the inning. Gaston, batting for the second time in the stanza, was down in the count 0-2 before working the frame's third bases-loaded walk for a 7-6 Hooks advantage. Jhon Florentino's single capped the rally, giving Corpus Christi a three-run cushion.

Traded to San Diego last week for future considerations, Lumsden (4-9) was charged with eight runs (four earned) off eight hits, walking three and fanning three.

Hooks starter Dallas Keuchel, making his second appearance at the Double-A level, surrendered five runs in the second before taking leave after three. The 22-year-old lefty yielded six runs and nine hits.

Corpus Christi's bullpen shackled San Antonio the rest of the way, holding the Missions to one run and two hits over the contest's final six innings. Edwin Walker (2-1) and Jailen Peguero each worked two while Matt Nevarez and Arcenio Leon pitched an inning apiece.

An RBI single by Affronti and two San Antonio errors paved the way toward three runs in the Hooks' half of the fifth. VanOstrand's two-out base hit to right field in the seventh accounted for his second RBI of the night, putting the Hooks up 13-7.

Gaston iced the onslaught in the ninth with a two-run laser over the right field fence. Gaston's eighth home run of the season finished a 3-for-5 night. He drove in three and now has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games.

Corpus Christi returns to Whataburger Field for a seven-game homestand, beginning Friday night against Midland. The RockHounds' Anthony Capra (5-8) takes on Jeremy Johnson (3-9) in the opener.

Note: First baseman Koby Clemens was placed on the disabled list (hamstring) prior to Thursday's game. Jhon Florentino, who was promoted from Lancaster to fill the vacant roster spot, went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs.
