Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
MIDLAND, TX - Ryon Healy hit a two-run home run and Dylan Covey faced two over the minimum through the first seven innings as Midland edged Corpus Christi 3-1 before 7,888 fans at Security Bank Ballpark.
The RockHounds (16-9) have won seven of their last eight games and all five contests against the Hooks.
Healy's first-inning blast was all Midland could muster against David Paulino. Following the poke, Paulino (0-1) retired 11 of the next 12 before stranding a pair in the fifth.
With two away in the Hooks seventh, Chase McDonald hammered the first pitch from Covey over the fence in center field. His seventh bomb of the year put Corpus Christi (11-13) on the board at 2-1.
McDonald is 7-for-18 with four homers and 12 RBIs in his last five games.
Covey (2-1) struck out seven against three walks and three hits over 7 2/3 frames.
The Hounds added a key insurance run in the seventh. Danny Oh notched a lead-off single against Kyle Smith. A wild pitch and sac bunt set the stage for Andy Paz, who sent a line drive into left-center for a 3-1 Midland advantage.
Smith dispatched the final five men in order to finish the night.
Aaron Kurcz earned his third save by pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Kurcz left two on base in the eighth.
The game was completed in two hours and 14 minutes.
The series continues Wednesday night when Francis Martes (1-2, 9.00) takes the hill for Corpus Christi. Midland sends Chris Jensen (2-2, 5.59) to the mound. First pitch is 6:30.
