Arkansas Travelers News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI -- Ross Seaton allowed just two runs and three hits over seven innings and Jon Singleton homered twice as Corpus Christi beat Arkansas 7-2 Friday at Whataburger Field before 5,772. The Hooks improved to 22-25 while sweeping their first series of 2012. The Travelers dropped to 19-28 after being swept for the first time.
Seaton (4-3), who's gone as deep as seven innings four times this year, is 4-1 in six starts since returning from Triple-A Oklahoma City April 28. Friday night, he walked two, struck out five and 61 of his 90 pitches found the strike zone. Singleton's seventh home run, a two-out bomb to left off A.J. Schugel, staked the Hooks to a 2-0 first-inning advantage. Arkansas halved that margin on Renny Osuna's sacrifice fly, which plated Rian Kiniry (walk/stolen base) two innings later. Singleton created breathing room for Seaton with a two-out, three-run blast during the fifth, Andy Simunic and Jonathan Villar aboard via a lead-off walk and single, respectively. The next inning, Villar greeted Arkansas reliever Andrew Taylor with two-out RBI single, pushing Corpus Christi's lead to 6-1 through six. Taylor took the ball from Schugel (2-5) after the Travs starter posted 5 2/3 innings, five earned runs, seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Angel Castillo hit a solo homer for the Travs (2) in the seventh and Brandon Barnes countered for the Hooks. Martinez, who extended his hitting streak to nine games in the first, has reached base in 20 straight contests. Singleton owns a nine-game hitting streak as well.
