Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(WICHITA, KS) – The Wichita Wranglers managed just five hits Wednesday night at Lawrence-DuMont Stadium, but three of them came in succession in the bottom of the fourth when the home team grabbed the lead for good on the way to a 6-3 win over the Hooks. The Wranglers captured the series two games to one, sending the Hooks to a 15-31 first-half record.

Wednesday's game began well enough for the Hooks, who jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double off the bat of Dax Norris. Corpus Christi established a 2-1 advantage in the fourth when Eric Riggs' single to center plated Charlton Jimerson from second base.

The game turned in the bottom of the fourth when the Wranglers had their first four batters all reach base safely. Shane Costa opened with a walk and went to third on Justin Huber's double. Cory Aldridge provided a pop-fly single to right-center that glanced off Jimerson's glove while the right fielder attempted to make a diving catch. Costa scored on the play to tie the game at 2-2 while Huber ended up at third.

Brennan King's double inside the right field line brought Huber in for a 3-2 Wichita lead as Aldridge raced to third. Matt Tupman popped out to Riggs at short for the first out in the inning, but Wilkin Ruan followed with a ground ball out to third that plated Aldridge for a 4-2 score.

The Wranglers would tack two unearned runs on the board in the seventh, taking advantage of an early error in the inning by Riggs. Sacrifice flies to right by both Adam Keim and Costa put the Wranglers ahead 6-2. The game's final run came home in the ninth when Riggs led off the inning with a homerun to right off Wichita reliever Colt Griffin. The dinger was the second this season for Riggs.

Wichita starter Brian Bass (5-2) picked up the win, limiting the Hooks to two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks in seven innings. Corpus Christi starter Jason Hirsh (4-5) suffered the loss, sacked with six runs, four of them earned, on five hits and two walks during his 6.1 innings on the hill.

Riggs, just 2-for-20 in the previous six games, went 2-for-3 Wednesday with a run and two RBI's. Jimerson, playing for the first time since May 16th, had two hits in four at-bats and also scored a run.

Corpus Christi's road trip continues Thursday night in Tulsa with the first in a four-game series against the Drillers. Hooks' LHP Mark McLemore (4-3, 2.76) will square off against Tulsa LHP Zack Parker (5-2, 4.24) in the 7:05 pm start.
