Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS-Corpus Christi (14-6, 51-39) picked up right where it left off Thursday, as the Hooks cruised to a 12-2 win over Frisco (9-11, 50-40) at Whataburger Field on Friday night. Corpus hit five home runs (a season high allowed by 'Riders pitching) and scored runs in every inning it batted except the fourth. The 10 run loss amounted to Frisco's largest defeat of the season.
A night after winning on a walk-off homer, Corpus Christi used the longball to take a quick first inning lead. On the third pitch from Jake Brigham (4-5), leadoff man Jonathan Villar cranked his third home run of the season against Frisco. One inning later, Villar would strike again, bringing home Jay Fernandez on sacrifice fly, while Jordan Kreke would add an RBI to make it 3-0 Hooks.
Corpus Christi doubled that total in the third inning. Thursday night's hero Austin Wates led the charge with a double off Brigham, before coming home one batter later on a 2-run homer by Jose Martinez. Jake Goebbert added an RBI single later in the inning to make it 6-0
In the fourth, the 'Riders erased the doughnut on the scoreboard plating a pair against Jake Buchanan (5-5). Following back-to-back singles by Jared Hoying and Jared Prince, Jose Felix drove home the visitors first run with a single to center. Ryan Strausborger added the second on a groundball to the left side.
Still leading 6-2, Corpus Christi added runs in every inning that followed. Kody Hinze began the fifth with a solo home run, while the Hooks added two in sixth (Austin Wates double), one in the seventh (Jon Singleton homer), and two in the eighth (Jose Martinez 2-run homer).
Jake Buchanan earned his first win in the month of July, tossing six innings of two run baseball. He walked three and struck out one. Jake Brigham drew the loss for Frisco, lasting three innings and allowing six runs (all earned). The Orlando native gave up eight hits, walked two, and struck out one.
Frisco plays the third of four games against Corpus Christi on Friday night. The Texas League's leader in wins, Barret Loux (12-1, 3.61), makes the start for Frisco. He will be opposed by Rob Rasmussen (0-0, 3.60) who makes his second Double-A start (both with the Hooks). First pitch is slated for 7:05 from Whataburger Field, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30.
The RoughRiders return home on Monday, July 16, when San Antonio visits Dr Pepper Ballpark. To purchase tickets, fans can visit ridersbaseball.com.
