Rochester Honkers News Release

Rochester, MN - The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club continued their rough first half, falling once again to the Mankato MoonDogs by a score of 7-3 on Sunday at Mayo Field. The MoonDogs have had the Honkers number thus far this season, as they are the only team in the North Division the Honkers have yet to beat.

Drew Bowen (Jr, Oral Roberts) got the start for the Honkers pitching 5.2 innings, and allowing four runs on seven hits. Bowen struck out five batters before yielding to the bullpen for relief pitchers Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) and Jordan Jakubov (RsJr, Kansas). Dolsky pitched three innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Jakubov pitched one inning, striking out two batters.

Utility man Erik Mattingly (Jr, Creighton) homered in the seventh inning to cut the Mankato lead to 4-3, giving the Honkers a brief glimmer of a comeback chance. The MoonDogs smashed the said hopes with a three run eighth inning, putting them up by four. Devin Thaut (Jr, Southern Polytechnic State) went 1-2 with a double and a walk, and Jake Marasco (So, Kansas) also doubled in the game, his sixth of the year.

The Honkers will travel to Alexandria tomorrow for a three game series with the Alexandria Beetles, starting at 3:05 on July 4. This series will be the final three games of the first half, and then the Honkers will travel to Mankato to start the second half of the season on Thursday. The Honkers are back home next Saturday, July 9, when the Duluth Huskies come to town for a three game set.
