Rochester Honkers News Release
Rochester, MN - The Honkers still can't seem to find consistency winning, falling in the opener of a two game series against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers on Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Hambright (So, Oregon) made his second at-bat of the game count, with the Honkers down 1-0, Hambright took a high fast ball deep, over the fence for a solo-home run, tying the game at one. The Lunkers would return fire two innings later with a two-run fifth inning, taking the indefinite lead. Hambright was the brightest star in the sky for Honkers fans, going 2-for-2 with two walks and scored both Honkers runs.
Kevin Johnson (So, Illinois) was handed his first loss of the season, after getting chased early in his first two starts due to rain delays. Johnson pitched 5.2 innings allowing nine hits and five runs, just four of them earned, while striking out a season high five batters.
Erik Mattingly (Jr, Creighton) pitched 3.1 innings of relief for the Honkers, allowing one run on four hits. Mattingly was almost taken out of the game after apparently being hit with a line drive, but the doctor ruled he was good to stay in, so he did.
The Honkers and Lunkers will return to Mayo Field for another matinee tomorrow, first pitch at 1:05pm. Alex Alemann (So, St. Louis University) will make his final start of the season for the Honkers tomorrow, before being shut down by his college coaches for the summer. Alemann was the Honkers opening day starter, and is finishing up a temporary contract in which the Honkers have seen him go 1-3 on the season. The Honkers will then enjoy a day off on Tuesday the 28th, before traveling to Brainerd for three more games, making it five consecutive games against the Lunkers rounding out the end of June.
