Honkers Fall 4-2 to Stingers

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers lost the first of a three-game set to the Willmar Stingers on Monday night in Willmar, MN by a final score of 4-2.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Stingers leadoff hitter Forrest Allday smacked a two-run double. The Stingers added two more in the sixth to make it 4-0.

The Honkers finally got on the board in the top of the seventh inning with two runs. The first score came on an RBI single by third baseman Reid Roper (Illinois) and the second on an RBI fielder's choice from the bat of shortstop Michael Lukkason (Dakota Wesleyan).

Rochester lefty starter Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) pitched 6.0 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk. Miller picked up the loss and moves his record to 3-3.

The Honkers loaded the bases in the eighth but a double play ended the threat.

Elliot Engle (Doane) pitched 2.0 effective innings in relief of Miller and did not allow a run.

Lukkason and first baseman Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) each went 2 for 4 in the defeat.

Game two featuring the Honkers (9-14, 34-24) and Stingers (14-9, 34-24) will take place tomorrow night at 7:05 PM in Willmar, MN. Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) will start on the hill for the Honkers. Millbrath has made nine appearances for the Honkers this summer and owns a 2-3 record with a 7.01 ERA.

The Honkers will not play again at home until Sunday, August 5th when they take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Mayo Field. The game starts at 1:05 PM.
